Mertion Excavating Ltd. is a third generation, family run business, which began operation in Vernon B.C. Originally started by Tony Mertion in 1957, the company had a small blade caterpiller and a cable operated excavator called the Quickway.
In 1973, Ed Mertion took over the company from his father and it slowly grew over the years. The company expanded in its equipment as well as its clientele. Mertion Excavating Ltd. has done many projects throughout the Okanagan Valley. Along with residential foundations, landscaping, road building and septic systems, commercial projects have also been a focus for the company. From the original 350 John Deere, Mertion Excavating has expanded to include several excavators for different types of projects, many dump trucks, a bobcat, loader and other pieces of equipment to serve many purposes.
In 2009, Klayton Mertion took over the company from his father, Ed. The company continues to have its main office and operations in Vernon, but also strives to expand and work on projects all over the Okanagan Valley. The longevity of the company has proven that Mertion Excavating is a strong and reliable business.
